Vitamin K3 (menadione) is a synthetic water-soluble vitamin K analog used to treat bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency, such as in neonatal hemorrhage or anticoagulant overdose. It aids liver synthesis of clotting factors but may cause side effects like nausea or, in severe cases, hemolytic anemia (especially in G6PD-deficient individuals) or neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, limiting its use in children. Administered orally or via injection (2-10 mg/day for adults), it is contraindicated in severe liver/kidney dysfunction and G6PD deficiency, with natural vitamin K1 preferred for safer long-term use.
