Crystalline penicillin for injection (mainly penicillin G) is a high-purity sterile powder, dissolved for IM/IV use (not oral due to acid sensitivity). It kills bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis, targeting gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative cocci, and spirochetes (e.g., Treponema pallidum). Used for severe infections (septicemia, endocarditis, meningitis) and specific diseases (syphilis, leptospirosis). Dissolve in 0.9% NaCl (avoid glucose), use immediately. Adult dose: 2-4 million units/day for mild infections, up to 20 million units for severe cases (divided doses). Risks include anaphylaxis (mandatory skin test, contraindicated in allergic patients), penicillin encephalopathy (monitor renal function), and Jarisch-Herxheimer reactions. Contraindicated in penicillin allergy and severe renal insufficiency. Avoid mixing with acidic/alkaline agents, prepared by (medical staff), observe 30 mins post-injection. Complete the course to prevent recurrence. High efficacy but requires strict medical guidance; never self-administer.

 

 

Actions and Uses:
It is active against Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Gonococcus, Meningococcus,susceptible S, aureus and Spirochetes It is indicated for the treatment of infections suchas severe funmcles.abscesses, septicaemia, septic meningitis, pneumonia, gonorrhoeaand syphilis.

Administration and Dosage: 
3-5 ml of water for injection is added into the vial before use. It is given by I.M or
I.V, (by intermittent infusion) according to the severity and type of infections
For I.M. Adults, 240mg-480mg(400,000 i n.'800,000 i u.) each time, 2-4 times a day,
For I V, Adults, 960mg-2,4g (l,600,000i.u--4,000,000 i.u.) each time,3-4 limes a day
In the treating of meningitis and endocarditis, the recommended daily dose is 6g-l 2g
(10,000,000i.u.-20,000,000 i.u.) per day by intermittent infusion after dilution.
Children, 15mg-30mg (25,000i.u. - 50,000 i vl) /kg daily divided into 2-4 doses.

Precautions:
Before administratioTi a skin test of Benzy Ipeniciilm Sodium should be made.
